Reading Is Fun Punch Pass

I don't know about you but at my house summer is coming up in two very short weeks and I have one child who has her nose in a book almost always and 2 who hate to read. Yesterday I went to a class to better help one of my kids love to read and stay at the pace he is at for learning so he will not be behind when school starts next year.  A few things I've learned over the years is to make reading a fun possibility for my kids and to not push them to my expectations. So here are a couple of small tips if you're interested.
1. Ask the child which books interest them while at the library, bookstore or home library.
2. Ask them what they think is going to happen in the book before they read it.
3. They need to be able to read 1 out of ten words or the book may be to hard for them.
4. If they are not able to read to that amount then, you read the book to them or choose a book based upon their level.
5. If you are reading them the book be animated and use your voice.
6. After you have read the book ask them questions like:  What happened when? Who is this? What did you like best?
7. Have them find certain words. Sight or Other
8. Praise them for their willingness to read.
9. Be patient.
10. Have fun.
I want my children to have a safe and fun learning environment so I have decided that for our summer reading schedule and program we are going to implement the Reading Is Fun Punch Pass.  For every 180 minutes of reading my kids do we will have a specific thing we get to do together or recieve a small prize.  Before we accomplish this goal each of my children get to pick a reward for when the goal is met. (this doesn't always mean a prize for example It can be alone time for one hour with mommy or picking a favorite movie to watch on family movie night.)
I am no literacy expert, I'm just a mom on a mission to have my kids love reading in their own way.

I went to the Young Women's general meeting last Saturday with my daughter "Sassy" for the first time. I have been several times over the past few years, but this year was special to me because she was with me. I loved all the talks but I loved Pres. Monson's talk....So I made a printable for it.

St. Patricks Day Subway Art Hutch Decor and A couple of Tricks!

Last year I purchased My hutch. It has been awesome. I decorate it for every holiday.
I have a mantle. Each Holiday it gets a cute banner. I do not make a new banner every year, but I put the most recent pictures of my family on the banners. It's  a fun way to include my kids in the decor. *******Hershey Kisses Trick.... You can buy Hershey Kisses after Christmas for a deep discount. I separate them out into silver and green and silver and red. Put them in baggies and use them for
 Valentines and St. Patrick's Day.
