a WICKED fun PARTY!

I host a Witches Tea with my family! This year was exceptionally fun.... Here's a look at what made the details!
You can find the printables in previous posts.
I love doing this for my family to show my appreciation for all they have done for me.
Below: Witch Party Favor tied with ribbon onto the chairs. I made them from this printable:

 Eye of Newt Treats:
I found chocolate eyeballs at the dollar store and added them to bead holders from Hobby Lobby!
Witches Goo:
I made a chocolate cake decadent by adding creme de menthe flavoring and Andes Mints
to the batter. I then layered the cake with cake, mint frosting and Andes Mints and on top added a Hershey's Kiss

Spider Cakes:
Classic Pumpkin Chocolate Chop Cream Cheese Cupcakes embellished with chocolate chips and spiders found at my local dollar store.

Witch Fingers:
Found at my local dollar store and then placed on an amazing bejeweled platter I found for 2 dollars.
Witch Boot:
I went to my local Savers and found a pair of boots. I then glittered and decorated my boot for a table centerpiece. You can also see candy in a flower urn. This candy was used to fill the "Witch Treats" to go containers.

Last But not least the Amazing Witches Who made the night complete...

BELIEVE: FHE Family Motto For 2012-13 School Year

Our Family Motto for this next school year is BELIEVE!
We had one of our kids favorite dinners: Taco's. For dessert: donut hole kabobs. We had a lesson on our new motto with our scripture and a new quote with our motto.
Our scripture is:
3 Nephi 18:20
And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name,
which is right, believing that ye shall receive,
Behold it shall be given unto thee.

Our quote is from President Monson:
"Believe that remaining strong and faithful to
the truths of the gospel is of utmost importance."
You can find this quote from this talk:
I did an 11x14 print for our wall and
each of my kids got their own print and some back to school goodies.
Smarties and Airheads. Then Article of Faith Cards.
We will be focusing on them for our family home evenings this year.
The article of faith cards found at simply fresh designs.
(The digital papers used to make my prints and banner for myself were from the
digital kit Clementine Addition from  Becky Higgins Project Life.

Reading Is Fun Punch Pass

I don't know about you but at my house summer is coming up in two very short weeks and I have one child who has her nose in a book almost always and 2 who hate to read. Yesterday I went to a class to better help one of my kids love to read and stay at the pace he is at for learning so he will not be behind when school starts next year.  A few things I've learned over the years is to make reading a fun possibility for my kids and to not push them to my expectations. So here are a couple of small tips if you're interested.
1. Ask the child which books interest them while at the library, bookstore or home library.
2. Ask them what they think is going to happen in the book before they read it.
3. They need to be able to read 1 out of ten words or the book may be to hard for them.
4. If they are not able to read to that amount then, you read the book to them or choose a book based upon their level.
5. If you are reading them the book be animated and use your voice.
6. After you have read the book ask them questions like:  What happened when? Who is this? What did you like best?
7. Have them find certain words. Sight or Other
8. Praise them for their willingness to read.
9. Be patient.
10. Have fun.
I want my children to have a safe and fun learning environment so I have decided that for our summer reading schedule and program we are going to implement the Reading Is Fun Punch Pass.  For every 180 minutes of reading my kids do we will have a specific thing we get to do together or recieve a small prize.  Before we accomplish this goal each of my children get to pick a reward for when the goal is met. (this doesn't always mean a prize for example It can be alone time for one hour with mommy or picking a favorite movie to watch on family movie night.)
I am no literacy expert, I'm just a mom on a mission to have my kids love reading in their own way.
