ZANE ANTHOHNY THURBER
I am writing a little personal story today. Exactly one month ago today my sister and her family laid to rest their sweet little Zane. He was only three years old. He was killed on January 25th by a drunk driver who hit my brother in law who was stopped at a light.Zane was a little spit-fire. When he walked into a room it was like a tornado came in and you knew he was there. He loved life, He was full of life and he adored his mommy, daddy and brother. He loved to be mischievous, rambunctious and spontaneous. He also loved his "MiMi" his bink. He loved treats and hummed when he ate his food. We knew he thoroughly enjoyed his food because of the humming. He loved his Grandma's and Grandpa's. He kept his Mommy and Daddy on their toes.
He loved his cousins and he loved to torment his brother and be his best friend all at once. He loved Curious Geoge and the color Yellow!
It has been one of the hardest experiences in my life.
My sister has been though an awful lot this last year, but nothing compared to losing her baby.
These are her words from a couple of weeks ago:
"In
a couple of hours it will be one year since my AVM (Marvin) removal
surgery. I really thought that was going to be one of the hardest
things that I'd ever have to go through. I honestly had a feeling that I
wasn't going to survive the surgery.
It ended up being a breeze. Then in October I got Transverse Myelitis,
and basically had to learn how to walk again and still have a loss of
feeling in my leg. I ended up spending more time in the hospital and
recovering from the transverse myelitis, then I did for having brain
surgery. What I didn't realize was that those two extremely difficult
things were only preparing me for what would be the hardest thing that
I'd ever have to go through, losing Zane. He had the funniest memories
of my time spent in the, as he would say, "hopsital". He never forgot
stealing my food or my juice and would often remind me of that. He also
had Matt
trained. We go see Mom, we go get candy from the candy machine, we go
get a drink, then we get in bed with mom and twirl her hair and push all
the buttons on the bed....up, down, up, down, and make sure the volume
on the TV is turned up as loud as it can go. He sure knew how to make a
tough situation a little more fun and bearable.
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."
My sister is one of my heroes. She is very wise.
One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was speak at sweet Zane's funeral. One of the most spiritual times of my life was seeing my sister carry sweet Zane into his casket.
Words cannot comprehend the pain and sorrow we as a family have felt. Also the great joy in knowing he is With Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. He is an angel watching over our family at this time. I have no doubt about that. We have had many, many experiences since his passing on that have validated this for our family.
Our family has seen the miracle of kindness and generosity. We have seen the kindness of strangers along with extended family and friends. We have felt the love of God through the tender mercies we have been given. I don't have enough words to express the debt of gratitude we have for the many thousands of people who have helped.

I just want to say a big thank you to the many people who have helped our family. The police and fire department's, the many thousands who have donated money. The kids in my Mom's class who earned money, the little girls in my neighborhood who had a bake sale, The prayers that have been said on our family's behalf. The amazing doctors and nurses who helped my Brother-in-law and other nephew.
I want to share a little story. Zane was talking with my Step-Dad a few weeks before his passing and he wasn't doing what he was supposed and Grandpa asked him to do something and he said: "blah, blah, BLAH!" My Mom laughed her head off. Zane has been a goer since he was born we can all take heed in his words "BLAH BLAH BLAH" I think it means....."QUIT TALKING ABOUT IT, GO AND LIVE IT! MAKE THE MOST OUT OF LIFE!"

In honor of Zane please feel free to download this 8x10 image.
Tell those you love to make the most of the life they have because you never know when it will end.
Remember Sweet Zane and his legacy of living life to the fullest.
ALSO:
Please remember to not drink and drive. You have the right to drink but as soon as you decide to get behind the wheel after doing so you take away the rights of innocent people.
WE WANT ZERO FATALITIES!
Please spread the word about Zane and his story. Please let the world know that our choices have consequences that affect others.
I found this poem that is so fitting for our Zane:
I know
you're feeling sad today because I had to go.
I know
you have so many things that remind you of me so.
And
though you cry as you recall the time you spent with me.
I know
your pain would turn to joy if you could only see.
I'm in
heaven with Jesus now.
We
laugh, we sing w play.
He holds
me gently in his arms.
I know
no pain today.
And
though we're parted for a while
Jesus
has promised me
He'll
someday bring you here
where
we'll live for eternity.
